Rainbow Cove Hotel - here are two more shots of the Rainbow Cove Motel
and Restaurant. In the second image you can see the dock and motel
building to right side of the image. The restaurant is in
building on the left side of the image. |

The next point of interest heading north on the west shore is the Showboat Motel & Restaurant. |

Showboat Motel & Restaurant - here are some more approach shots of the
motel. As of the 2004 season we have not stayed at the motel,
but we have heard good things about their staff and food in our
travels.

Our next landmark is
Ross Point as we cruise toward the north end of Seneca Lake.
Aside from the motels, the west side of the lake has very little
dockage and there is only one source of fuel, so make sure you use the
1/3 rule if you plan on cruising the length of the lake. |

Long Point is one of the larger landmarks on Seneca Lake - there is
another point by the same name on
Cayuga Lake. |

Long Point provides a good boaters landmark as you approach - notice
the gaps between the trees. |

And here is a final approach shot of Long Point - we cruised in to
investigate hoping there was some boater access, but there is none.

Perry Point is next on the point parade, and you can see the stacks
from the New York State Electric and Gas company in the background. |

We swung in for a closer look at a beautiful home on
Perry Point, one of dozens of large homes on the west side of Seneca
Lake. |

We decide to venture mid-lake at this point to see the Naval Station platform
where underwater testing and diving happens. Do not stray too
close! We were carefully watched by a machine gun toting
guard as we moved toward the platform. Best to just move along,
move along... |

The only problem with a lake this beautiful is that it attracts water
loving power plants as these
NYSEG stacks indicate. Well, at least they make a decent
landmark. |

As you pass the NYSEG stacks, beware of some submerged piles a couple
hundred yards offshore. These would make a fine mess of any
cruiser. |

comes up next on our cruise north. |

what the owners prefer. |

White Point is the last landmark before you get to fuel at Roy's
Marina. |

Roy's Marina is your
only fuel stop on the west shore of Seneca Lake, but be careful
and watch your depth gauge! We came dangerously close to hitting
bottom on our visit. We helped some fisherman in to shore who
had run out of gas mid-lake. While we were towing them into Roy's I
noticed the depth drop to 2 feet just in time! You should not
have a problem as long as you follow the deeper channel in to dock. |
