Stiver's Seneca Marina is our favorite stop after a cruise
west on the
Cayuga-Seneca Canal
from
Cayuga Lake. It takes
from 3 to 4 hours to cruise at canal speed (10 MPH) across the C-S
Canal, and Stivers is a great place for transient boaters to stop and
eat, party, and dock overnight. |

The Riverside Inn has
great food, docks right out front of the deck, and great atmosphere.
The service is good and people are very friendly and informative in
both the marina and restaurant. |

After passing the Seneca Yacht Club on the port side (see pictures on
our
Cayuga-Seneca Canal Visual Tour)
there are several beautiful homes on the waterfront. |

As you continue southward along the east shore, the
Rose Hill Mansion is
just visible over the tops of the shoreline trees as shown in the
image and map above. |

Just north of Pontius Point on East Lake Rd. (parallels the east shore) is The Lakeshore Grill Restaurant. |

You
have to slow down to get a bead on their dock, but it is capable of
slipping several boats - nothing too big however. They do have a
water taxi available for larger boats that want to anchor offshore. |

Here are some more shots of the Lakeshore Grill. We very much enjoyed
the atmosphere and the food here, and the staff was very friendly as
well. |

The next landmark is Pontius Point, which means we are nearing
one of our favorite destinations for an overnight on Seneca Lake
coming from Cayuga Lake. |

Sampson State Park in
Romulus, NY is an excellent and well maintained state park with many
amenities, including a marina that is protected from the sometimes
rough waters of Seneca Lake (which tend to be more rough than its
sister Cayuga Lake). |

We've included several shots of Sampson State Park and the associate
marina. That's the first mate at our slip on the left, and a shot
taken from the end of the marina looking south. Note: You
should make reservations to stay here! It can get crowded during
the busy weekends. You also need to call ahead for your boat
slip number and to have someone deliver an adapter to fit your shore
power system. This park marina was once a Navy base, and the
electrical systems have to be adapted to pleasure craft. |

More shots of Sampson State Park. They have a sandy beach and some
beautiful grounds. We sat on portable chairs at the beach and
enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
