Cruising Guide Map: CS-18   Stewart Park Pavilion - Stewart Park is one of the places that Ithaca celebrates the annual Ithaca Festival. If there were any places for boaters to dock, you could visit it by boat!  Moving on...
Cruising Guide Map: CS-18   East Shore Sailing - Just up the east side of the lake is the East Shore Sailing peninsula, future site of Cornell University's "Remington", an upscale Inn that should cater to visiting boaters.

Captain's Note: This type of development typically suffers endless debate in Ithaca. I have attended some of the town meetings and seen how slowly the wheels grind regarding any change to the local landscape, for better or worse (worse for visiting boaters). Don't expect this structure to crop up overnight - however Cornell University owns the parcel, so it may happen faster.

Cruising Guide Map: CS-18 Cargill Salt Plant - About halfway to the next marina is the Cargill salt plant. Cayuga and Seneca Lakes have large underground salt mines.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-17 Finger Lakes Marine - After you pass the salt plant to starboard, you can see Myers Point in the distance. This is the home to Finger Lakes Marine, a smaller marine service in a great protected harbor.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-17 This is another approaching shot to Finger Lakes Marine; it can be difficult to spot the narrow inlet as you approach the point. The inlet to the small harbor is almost at the base of the peninsula that makes up Myers Point. The town of Lansing also has a nice park and small boat marina on the other side of the point.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-17 Here is a shot of the gap that provides access to the harbor. The fuel pumps (gas only) are straight ahead when you enter the harbor.  This is a small harbor so watch your maneuvering room.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-17 Myers Point is the name of the beautiful outcropping where the marina resides (on the south side).  It is popular with small craft and sailboats.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-17 Myers Point also harbors the Lansing Town Park & Marina - it's for small craft only as the access is shallow. There are no docks at the park for larger boats. The entrance is dead ahead in the picture above.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-17   Lansing Town Park is adjacent to the Marina on the north side of the point and is a great place for a picnic lunch if you come by small boat or car.

Captain's Note: I have contacted the town and spoke with a representative of the park inquiring about boat docking for transient (and larger) boats and there was some talk about putting in floating docks during the season.

Cruising Guide Map: CS-16B Lansing Point is about midway between Myers Point and Milliken Station power plant. This area is nice to stop and drift for a while.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-16B   Lake Ridge Point is just south of Milliken Station power plant, and you can see the steam stacks of the plant in the background.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-15B   Milliken Station NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas) is a coal burning power plant located about midway up Cayuga Lake on it's east side.  Not the prettiest site on the lake, but it is high-tech enough not to foul the air.

Tip: We use the steam rising from the stacks to as air direction indicators and weather predictors. If the steam is rising straight up, good weather and calm waters. If the steam is split to look like the Three Stooges Larry hair, weather's fair but somewhat windy, and if it is point in some direction, you can tell what's on the horizon.

Cruising Guide Map: CS-15B   Don's Marina is a small marina that provides a gas only fuel stop half way up the lake.  There are some parts and goods in the store and it has a fairly large dock to accommodate a number of boats but only one gas pump. The water can be rougher on the east side of Cayuga at this point, so have your fenders ready.
Cruising Guide Map: CS-15B   Cats Elbow Point is just past Don's Marina and almost directly across from our home base of Sheldrake Point on the west side of Cayuga Lake.
