As you leave Hibiscus Harbor's small entrance you should take a look
over your shoulder when you get out on the lake. Their entrance
can be real hard to find, even in daylight. The next two shots give
you different views from out in the Cayuga lake.

the harbor. |

I've become accustomed to spotting the house on the right of he
channel entrance. You should also note the location relative to
the tip of Hibiscus Point, as shown in the map and image below. |

Troy's Marina & Campground - Finding the entrance to Troy's can be as
difficult as the one to Hibiscus Harbor; fortunately they are fairly
close to each other. I've driven in Troy's mistaking it for
Hibiscus Harbor in the early days of Cayuga Lake boating! |

Harris Park
is lakeside in the town of Cayuga, NY. It is a nice municipal park.
Unfortunately, there is no place to dock, as the water is too shallow
and docking is restricted.
Captain's
Note: I am trying to find out if the town ever plans to allow docking
and if they will dredge the area deep enough for larger boats. |

After you pass Harris Park you will pass under Rail Road Bridge S-2 as
you approach the north end
of Cayuga Lake. Beyond it is Beacon Bay Marina and you are a short way
from the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. Although it is not speed limit
posted, I try to keep it slow because many people fish from the base
of the bridge, and you need to share this space with other boats. |

As you pass under the railroad bridge, a look to
starboard for
Beacon Bay Marina. They
do not have fuel, but there is some ahead before you get on the canal
system. |

As you approach the intersection buoy RG"CS", you will
see
Lockview Marina off to
starboard. There is no fuel at this marina as well, and you should
watch your wake since the tip of the lake narrows a lot with shallows
to your port. |

If you continue north to the tip of Cayuga Lake you reach the
Cayuga-Seneca Canal and Lock CS1. If you head to port from this
position you can travel the Cayuga-Seneca Canal to Seneca Lake.

Now we turn around and head south under the railroad bridge to cruise
the west coast of Cayuga Lake. |

Approximately 1.5 miles southwest of the railroad bridge we reach the
Deerhead Inn. Docking is
limited to a private dock that may be used by renters so you should call ahead to make sure
there is space available.Captains Note:
I'm not sure if the tent you see in the image above serves as a
landmark each season - I need to check that with the owner. |

The image on the left is a closer shot of the boat launch, and the

but docking is limited (and shallow), so it pays to call ahead. |

On the left is a shot approaching the docking area, and on the right
is a shot of the pier where you can dock. Bigger boats better
trim up your props, because it is shallow and not dredged. I
kicked up some sand on my approach to the "deeper" end of the dockage. |

The Red Jacket
Yacht Club is the next landmark you pass on your cruise south.
It is a private club and not docking is available for non-members.
Remember though, in an emergency such as a lightening storm or
mechanical failure, no one will turn you away.
Captain's Note: The exact location of the Red Jacket
buildings on shore is approximate. |

Lakeshore Winery is the
first vineyard with a boaters dock that you reach heading south.
Keep a sharp lookout for the sign on their dock as it's easy to pass
by. And beware that the dock is in shallow waters - trim
the engines up or you make churn up some lake bottom. |

Knapp
Vineyard is about a mile south or Lakeshore Winery. If you call
well ahead of time to ask permission, you can request dockage at their
private cottage. If the cottage is not rented at the time, the Knapp
personnel will come and pick you up to transport you to the vineyard
which is a couple miles west of the dock. |

Goosewatch has a tasting hut on the shore of the lake (seen on the far
left of the image on the right) which is a neat addition but I've
never seen it open in about 10 visits. Regardless it makes a
great place to sit and enjoy the views. |
