Aurora Inn

Commentary
The Aurora Inn restaurant is one of the premier dining spots on Cayuga
Lake. They added a dock in 2005 which gave us a reason to list them on
Ships Blog. While the food and atmosphere is not to be missed, the
dock can only accommodate one larger boat (30' +) and several smaller
boats. We tried to fit the Kopasetic in the smaller slips but
depth and length considerations prevented us from any docking other than
the end of the "T" - the smaller slips will not accommodate large boats.
Our first outing there (after making reservations about 1/2 day in
advance) had us calling in to ask permission of another boat owner to raft
up next to them on the "T". Of course that means a dinner
interruption when the earlier party wants to leave. All in all, we
were thrilled to see a solid dock put in - the work was done by the same
builder that did our dock in Sheldrake, Ron Knewstub of Knewstub Marine.
Recommendations for the Restaurant
 | More docking space! While we understand the
neighborhood objections, every visit on any good boating weekend means a
wait for a slip or some calls to raft up - not a great option with a
larger boat. See the
Belhurst Castle dock for an example of what
the Inn needs. |
 | Put some signs out on the waterfront with your hours
of operation. |
 | Add a windsock near shore to help boaters negotiate
docking. |
 | Put a sign near the dock explaining who
they are for - patrons of the restaurant or inn. |
 | Have your personnel watch the dock to aid boaters (a
well placed camera would help). |
